New to Mushrooms?

All of our mushrooms are grown in tents, indoors. The growing environment is controlled through monitoring light, humidity, and temperature. The mushrooms start out from liquid cultures and are put to grain, so the mycelium (the root system) can grow. This process (colonizing) can take up to five weeks. The grain is then transferred to bags of hardwood sawdust where the mycelium will colonize in the bag, for another several weeks, before the mushrooms are put in the tents to fruit. After anywhere from five to fourteen days, we share the fruits of our labor!

Intro to Mushrooms

How long will my mushrooms last?

Mushroom shelf life

We recommend using most of our mushrooms within 5 - 7 days.

*Pink oyster mushrooms should be used within 2 days.

How should I store my mushrooms?

Mushroom storage

Mushrooms should be kept in the refrigerator in their original box or a paper bag. Don't stick them where they can freeze! They don't like it.

Can I eat my mushrooms raw?

Raw mushrooms

We recommend cooking all mushrooms. Their cell walls are very tough and are almost impossible for humans to digest.

How do I use these mushrooms?

Preparing mushrooms

Any of our mushrooms can be cut up and sauteed just like any mushroom purchased from a grocery store. Some of our mushrooms are great for frying, grilling, or using as a shredded meat substitute!

I've only eaten store mushrooms. What should I start with?

Starting with mushrooms

If you've only ever eaten common mushrooms from the grocery store, we recommend starting out with blue or white oysters. They're easy to work with, have a meaty texture, with a milder flavor.

If a mushroom is new to you, we recommend trying it in small amounts at first.
